Most travelers to Italy make short hops within the Milan-Venice-Florence-Rome circuit. For these trips, it's cheaper to buy point-to-point tickets in Italy as you travel. If you're buying your ticket at a major train station plagued with long lines, try the automated ticket machines instead. Or, you can buy tickets and make seat reservations at major travel agencies (such as CIT) in city centers. During the summer, it's worthwhile to spring for first class for its smaller crowds and better air conditioning.
The Trenitalia Pass is meant to be convenient, but you'll need to stop at the ticket window before each trip if you want a seat reservation (optional $4 for most trains or required $10 -15 for Eurostar Italia). You can reserve several dates at once if you're ready to commit. Compared to fast InterCity trains, the speedier Eurostar Italia shaves a little time off typical trips (15 - 45 min. between Venice and Florence, 30 - 60 min. Florence-Rome, 10 - 20 min. Rome-Naples) but may not be worth the effort and expense of reserving if you have a pass. Railpasses do not cover the Circumvesuviana train from Naples to Pompei and Sorrento ($3, see www.ondaverde.it/gruppo2.htm for schedules) nor Milan's Malpensa Airport Express ($10, see www.ferrovienord.it). Not valid on Germany-Italy night trains (pass must cover the whole route of your trip).
A France-Italy pass is also available for those traveling in both Italy and France.

General Conditions
Children ages 3 and under travel for free
Children aged 4 to 11 travel for half the adult fare. For Saver passes, one child is considered as one person. Therefore an adult and child traveling together are entitled to buying a Saver pass
Ages 26 and over qualify for first class passes only.
Prices may be converted into local currency, please consult your travel agent
Eurail Passes are not available for sale to residents of Europe, the Russian Federation, Turkey, Morocco, Algeria or Tunisia.
Passes must be validated within 6 months of issue.
Passes can not be replaced if lost or stolen. We recommend Pass Security with your order.
